Announcing the launch of awards for climate activists
The German Embassy in Dhaka and the local Eastern Bank Plc (EBL) have introduced an award for climate change initiatives in Bangladesh. This award titled ‘EBL Climate Change Action Award’ will be given every year.
This award recognizes local corporations, manufacturing companies, NGOs, and climate workers for their leadership and successful projects in fighting climate change.
In this regard, a partnership agreement was signed between the German Embassy and EBL recently. Achim Troster, German Ambassador to Bangladesh and Ali Reza Iftekhar, CEO of EBL signed a ‘Joint Declaration of Intent.’ The signing ceremony was held at the German Embassy.
At the event, the German Ambassador said, ‘Climate change, mitigation and adaptation will only be effective if governments, the private sector and civil society work together.’
This effort requires the right leadership, innovation and learning from each other by all parties involved. We heartily welcome this initiative taken by Eastern Bank to honor such efforts in Bangladesh.
Ali Reza Iftekhar, MD and CEO of EBL, stated that Germany and Eastern Bank aim to enhance cooperation in tackling climate change challenges in Bangladesh.
It is a matter of great pleasure for us to undertake this initiative in partnership with the German Embassy. Hopefully, we will be able to work together on climate issues in the future as well.
Through this award, we want to inspire and encourage more activists to participate in climate change action in Bangladesh.
EBL will award prizes in different fields to address significant climate change challenges in Bangladesh. Nominations for the Climate Change Action Award 2024 will soon open in newspapers, on EBL’s website, and social media.
