Wild monkeys are at risk in various ways due to climate change

Across the world, various wild animals are facing various risks due to climate change. The world’s temperature is rising. This is affecting various animals.

A new study says that wild Capuchin monkeys are at the greatest risk due to rising temperatures. Their immune system and performance are decreasing. Young monkeys of this species are gradually becoming weaker due to prolonged exposure to hot temperatures.

Anthropologist Jordan Lucore from the University of Michigan is studying how rising temperatures affect white-faced capuchin monkeys in Costa Rica.

She said that rising temperatures due to climate change are having an impact on forests. Rising temperatures are now a major threat to wild animals. Rising temperatures are having an impact on the immune system of such monkeys.

The ability to resist disease is changing due to temperature changes. Its impact on immunity and reproduction is being seen. A research paper has been published in Science Advances  on this effect.

Exposure to high temperatures for two weeks weakens monkeys’ immunity. Then the monkeys become susceptible to various diseases.

Many animals can regulate their body temperature according to changes in temperature. Mammals that cannot regulate their temperature are at risk.

Studies have shown that the immune system of young monkeys is more affected by heat. Scientist Jordan stated that young monkeys may be more impacted by temperature changes than older ones.

Overall, climate change is occurring all over the world. Scientists believe that more research is needed to understand how this change is affecting different species, including monkeys.
