Md. Shahab Uddin, the Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (Bangladesh), said nature-based solutions are the most effective way to overcome the challenges of pandemics, biodiversity destruction, climate change, and sustainable development.

“Bangladesh is making sincere efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the highest priorities on climate, nature, and development.”

The Green Growth Strategy has been adopted in the Eighth Five Year Plan and Perspective Plan (2021-2041) to build a climate-tolerant nation by coordinating economic growth with an improved and sustainable environment.

The United Nations Environment Program’s Forum of Ministers and Environmental Authorities of Asia Pacific held its fourth session in Suwon, South Korea.

The environment minister virtually joined the program and made the following remarks. On the occasions, the Environment ministers from Asia and the Pacific and the leaders of major international organizations spoke.

The Minister said the government had adopted the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 to achieve a safe, climate-tolerant, and prosperous delta by ensuring long-term water and food security, economic growth, environmental protection, and effective climate risk reduction.

To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Bangladesh submitted revised and improved ‘Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC)’ to the UNFCCC on August 26, 2021.

The “Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan 2030” has been finalized, with an emphasis on renewable energy, climate tolerance, and nature-based approaches, and incorporating locally adaptive approaches,” he added.

Besides, the government is implementing the Bangladesh Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan, Country Investment Plan for Environment, Forestry and Climate Change, Renewable Energy Roadmap, Plastic Waste Management Action Plan, etc., to tackle climate change.

He sought international financial and technical assistance to enhance the capacity to implement these action plans adopted at the national level.
