We are responsible for the pollution of our water and environment: AAMS Arefin Siddique, former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University

AAMS Arefin Siddique, the Former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, commented, “We are polluting the environment and water. We have to be accountable for these pollution activities.”

He said these things on Monday (September 5) at the Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Auditorium of Jatiya Press Club on the founding anniversary of the Green Movement.

AAMS Arefin Siddique said that the environment should be cared for like children. That is what the environmental movement is doing. Knowledge is easy, and education is challenging. Because our education is complex, our behavior is not changing. We hear daily but do not obey.

He said congratulations to those who have received the Greenman Award. People have more responsibility than the government to prevent water pollution. Because the people are the owners of the republic and the government is the servant.

Everyone has a responsibility to get clean water. We criticize the responsibility of the government, but what have we done? That is why we have to ask ourselves.

The Green Movement awarded four teachers the Greenman Award for their unique role in fundamental innovation, environmental research, and development of concept papers in natural resource development. The award recipients are

• Dr. Atiq Rahman, Executive Director of Bangladesh Center for Advanced Studies (BCAS)
• Dr. Md. Manzurul Kibria, Chairman of the Zoology Department of Chittagong University, for playing a unique role in protecting fish reproduction and preventing water pollution in the Halda river.,
• Dr. Adil Muhammad Khan, Professor of Jahangirnagar University and Executive Director of the Institute for Planning and Development, for playing a unique role in the process of rehabilitation of people affected by planned urbanization and climate change
•  Professor Dr. Tuhin Wadud of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, for playing a unique role in creating a green campus by planting 38,000 trees of about 400 species.
