It shouldn’t honk unnecessarily to prevent noise pollution: Environment Advisor, Bangladesh

Syeda Rizwana Hasan, a leading environmentalist and advisor in Bangladesh’s Interim Government, in charge of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Bangladesh and the Ministry of Water Resources (MOWR), Bangladesh, said that to build a safe future, we must live in a less noisy country.

She said that many drivers disturb the people nearby by honking their horns. “If we don’t honk unnecessarily in buses, trucks or cars, it is possible to prevent many people from losing their health,” she added.

Rizwana Hasan spoke as the chief guest at the noise awareness training held by the Department of Environment, Bangladesh, in the capital on October 26.

The environmental advisor said, all cars start honking when coming from red light to green-light, this should not be done. Before blowing the horn, think whether it is necessary or not. All drivers should be made aware not to honk.

The noise of rickshaws, especially when children are taken to school, can sometimes cause ear problems.

She also said that in Islam, it is recommended to speak in a low voice, not in a loud voice. “One should speak in such a way as not to cause annoyance to people. We think that the louder we speak, the stronger we are,” she added.

“But actually speaking rationally is the real power. It is possible to bring about change in society, state only by making changes at our personal level, she told.
