Bangladesh and England will work together in the coming days to address the climate problem
Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change in a meeting with Shahab Uddin and the British Minister of State for Business, Energy and Clean Growth, N. Mary Trevelian, Bangladesh and England agreed to work together in the future to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and climate change.
The environment minister said developed and developing countries must work together to tackle climate change. The Minister sought further cooperation of the United Kingdom in the implementation of the Paris Agreement as a developed country.
Last Thursday (February 25) afternoon, the Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change the two discussed various issues in a virtual (online) meeting with Shahab Uddin.
During the meeting, they discussed cooperation with Bangladesh in other areas, including tackling the impact of climate change on Bangladesh. Roknuzzaman, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change was present during the discussion.
Forest Minister. Shahab Uddin said, “Since the recognition of England by Bangladesh, England has been providing continuous support to Bangladesh.” He said the present government has been working relentlessly to address the negative effects of climate change and control environmental pollution.
Mentioning that Bangladesh is leading in various international forums on climate change, the Forest Minister said that the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina is currently serving as the Chairperson of the Climate Vulnerability Forum.
Moreover, with the establishment of the regional office of the ‘Global Center of Adaptation’ in Dhaka, the activities in this regard have started in full swing.
The Minister of Environment thanked the British Minister of State for Business, Energy and Clean Growth, N. Mary Trevelian, for inviting him to the March 31 ministerial event.
The meeting identified areas of cooperation between the two countries and emphasized on moving forward together in the future. The two also agreed to deepen cooperation between the two countries in various international forums.
