Bangladesh Govt. emphasized to use Jute based Packaging systems
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, a leading environmentalist and advisor in Bangladesh’s Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MOEFCC) and Ministry of Water Resources (MOWR), Bangladesh, emphasized the importance of increasing the use of jute-based packaging to safeguard the environment.
Speaking at a discussion in Dhaka, she stressed the need for the proper implementation of the Mandatory Use of Jute Packaging Act, 2010, to ensure widespread use of jute products.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan announced that discussions with business leaders would take place by December 2024 to support this initiative, with the Ministry of Environment offering policy assistance.
She noted that the jute sector plays a crucial role in protecting Bangladesh’s environment, urging joint public-private efforts to resolve challenges in the jute environment, forest, and climate change industry.
Brigadier (Retd.) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain, advisor to the Ministry of Jute and Textiles and the Ministry of Shipping, Bangladesh, highlighted the immediate focus on ensuring jute-based packaging for sacks used for rice, paddy, and wheat. He called for cooperation to expand the use of jute products across sectors.
The meeting, chaired by Bangladesh Jute Mills Association Chairman Md. Abul Hossain, brought together jute mill representatives and industry experts to discuss current challenges and solutions in the jute sector.
