Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, said, “Bangladesh is now one of the ideal countries in the world to tackle natural disasters.”

She made the remarks at an event at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on October 13, 2021.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Bangladesh, arranged the event to mark the 50th anniversary of the Cyclone Preparedness Program (CPP) established by the father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and International Disaster Mitigation Day.

The PM inaugurated four units of the CPP by virtually connecting from her official residence Ganobhaban.

“Our geographical location is such that we have to deal with natural disasters frequently; therefore, besides the various organizations of the government, the general public should also be aware to avoid the risk of disaster,” Sheikh Hasina continued.

“Rules and laws of the respective unit should be abiding by every team member. But in case of emergencies like fighting against the fire or earthquake or rescue works, all other units should assist the respective unit, “she rolled.

“Our government has taken all measures to deal with the disaster, and no other government has paid attention to them. As far as the initiatives we have taken, the father of the nation has taught these,” she remembered.

“We are now the world’s ideal country for disasters risk management. May we always retain this dignity! We don’t want to hear, not as many people died as they were supposed to die. We firmly believe this country is ours. No matter what the disasters risk, development work must continue.” she added.

As the ruling party leader, she stated, “Awami League is beside the people and will continue its position in any calamity like COVID-19.”

Ahmed Kaikaus, the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, hosted the event under the chair of Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman, the State Minister for Relief and Disaster Management (Bangladesh).
