Eco-friendly buildings should be constructed to protect the environment: Environment Advisor, Bangladesh
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, a leading environmentalist and Adviser to Bangladesh’s interim Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Bangladesh, stated that all government buildings in Bangladesh must be environment-friendly in the future.
The building should be designed in such a way that work can be done in sunlight during the day without electric lights. Adequate ventilation should be provided in the building. Besides, environment-friendly construction materials, including block bricks, should be used.
She spoke about the implementation progress of the 2024-25 annual development program in a meeting at MOEFCC, Bangladesh, on September 8.
During the advisory meeting, she directed the Director General of the Environment Department in Bangladesh to raise awareness about preventing river, noise, and plastic pollution. She said, ‘Effective steps should be taken to stop the use of plastic banners. The inspection report on the shipwreck should be delivered in a proper and timely manner.’
She advised the head of the forest department on wildlife conservation, modern safari park management, and planting native trees instead of eucalyptus.
The meeting included the ministry’s secretary, additional secretaries, heads of subordinate offices, project directors, and relevant officers.
On September 5, the Environment Advisor was the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the orientation course for newly joined officers of the 41st BCS, where he distributed certificates at the Department of Environment, Bangladesh.
