Everyone must work to control pollution from their respective places: Environment Minister of Bangladesh

Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Minister, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Bangladesh, said,

“People are suffering financially as well as physical damage due to air pollution, so every citizen should work to control pollution from their own place. Because we are doing noise pollution or air pollution in various ways which is affecting the health of others.”

He said, currently the government is also planning to go for alternative energy system. The environment minister urged all relevant authorities to work together to address air and environmental pollution and enforce the law effectively.



The environment minister said these things at a seminar titled “Save Your Breath: Policy Dialogue on Clean Air Imperatives” organized at an elite hotel in Dhaka on June 10, 2024.

Saber Hossain Chowdhury said, “Air pollution is not a single country’s problem – it is a regional and international problem.”

“Hence, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh need to work together in South Asia to address this problem through regional cooperation and coordination.

Because the air pollution of one country is affecting other countries. In addition, concerted action by all parties is necessary along with increasing the use of technology to curb air pollution,” he added.

Abdus Salam, Professor of Chemistry Department of Dhaka University presented the main article on air pollution in Dhaka.

Bangladesh Climate Parliament Convener and Member of Parliament Nahim Razzak, UNDP Bangladesh Resident Representative Stefan Liler, Bangladesh Institute of Planners President Adil Mohammad Khan, USAID Asia Bureau Deputy Assistant Administrator Anjali Kaur and Shakti Foundation Deputy Executive Director Imran Ahmed and others spoke.
