Forest officials must act with courage to protect forests: Syeda Rizwana Hasan
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, a leading environmentalist and advisor in Bangladesh’s Interim Government, in charge of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Bangladesh and the Ministry of Water Resources (MOWR), Bangladesh, urged the concerned officials to work with courage to protect the forest.
The advisor said, “To Protect the Forest, forest officials have to work with courage. Work speed should be increased, and any issues must be reported to management.”
The advisor spoke during the chief guest’s address at the International Freshwater Dolphin Day discussion in Dhaka on November 7, 2024. was ‘May the life of river dolphins thrive and be safe.’
She demonstrated her dedication to supporting forest officials and intends to offer risk allowances. She stressed that protecting trees is the forest department’s primary responsibility and urged forest guards to respond quickly to tree cutting.
The adviser stated that freshwater dolphins in rivers and reservoirs signify a healthy environment. Local communities should participate in dolphin conservation efforts. It’s important to prevent pollution in rivers and reservoirs and ensure water flow is maintained for the dolphins’ survival.
She launched a website to digitize the certification process and announced the results of the dolphin survey. As a result of this survey, the presence of about 636 groups or 1 thousand 352 Gangetic dolphins was determined.
