A high-level preparatory meeting was held to finalize the framework for Bangladesh’s robust negotiation strategy and the protection of its national interests at COP31—the world’s largest environmental and climate conference—scheduled to take place in Antalya, Turkey, from 9 to 20 November 2026.
The meeting took place in the conference room of the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Climate Change. It aimed to find ways to share the country’s position, adaptation experiences, and requests for international climate funds worldwide.
Main Agenda and Strategy: The Secretary of the Ministry led this meeting between ministries, which led to key decisions to improve Bangladesh’s standing in world climate discussions:
Bangladesh Pavilion and NDC (NDC 3.0) Presentation: At the Bangladesh pavilion in the main COP31 area, the country will strongly display its efforts to fight climate change, its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0), the National Adaptation Plan (NAP), and its needs for the ‘Loss and Damage’ fund.
Engagement with Affected Nations: Emphasis was placed on maintaining close coordination with the Least Developed Countries (LDC) group and like-minded developing nations to reduce delays in the disbursement of climate funds and to secure ‘green finance’ under favorable terms. Additionally, the process of forming a team of expert negotiators—comprising young and emerging officials—has been initiated.
Conclusion and Perspective: Bangladesh is very exposed to climate change, so it is crucial for the country to claim its rights and get compensation from the world. Green Page believes that, rather than limiting efforts to conventional rhetoric, diplomatic initiatives must be intensified at the Antalya conference to secure financial commitments regarding historical responsibility from industrialized, carbon-emitting nations.
