‘MPs must be involved in the development process to achieve SDG Targets’ – Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmeen Chowdhury

Dr. Shirin Sharmeen Chowdhury, Speaker, Bangladesh National Parlament spoke at the ‘My Parliamentary Area-My Constituency’ data platform organized by UNDP Bangladesh on Tuesday (September 29, 2020). The Speaker also inaugurated the data platform.
The Speaker said that the members of Parliament’s thoughts, ideas, suggestions, and directions are essential in the implementation and planning of development activities because the elected Members of Parliament work relentlessly to develop their parliamentary constituency and the improvement of the living standard of the people.
In this case, the Speaker said that the ‘My Parliamentary Constituency-My Constituency’ data platform app would bring the information about SDGs in the MPs’ hands.
The Speaker said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was present among a small number of world leaders at the UN meeting, which adopted the MDGs and SDGs. Over the last five years, her government has been successfully fulfilling every step of this SDG commitment by adopting various plans.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh has already submitted a voluntary national report to the United Nations. She mentioned that the present members of Parliament are very much engaged in implementing these development agendas.
She said that the present world is going through a terrible crisis called Covid-19, which is negatively affecting the lives and economy of the people of the world. Implementing the SDGs has become a complex challenge to keep the economy on the right track due to the employment deficit.
Therefore, based on the Members of Parliament’s views, the ‘My Parliamentary Constituency-My Constituency’-Data Platform has been sorted out, keeping in view the essentials in the light of their experience.
