By Adnan Mahfuz
Calling everyone to plant trees, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “If you plant trees, you feel good, and your mind will always remain fresh.
Besides, it will bring your solvency; you feel well if you eat a green chili of the tree planted by yourself. So, let’s come forward to plant together.”
Marking the National Tree Plantation Campaign 2020 and “Mujib Borsho” (Mujib 100 Year), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the distribution and plantation of one crore (10 million) saplings across the country on July 16, 2020.
In the morning, she launched the program by planting three trees- Tamarind, Chhatian, and Chalta on Gono Bhaban premises.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, however, that the coronavirus has temporarily halted all our progress. But I hope people will get rid of it. Under the leadership of the present government, the country will again move forward on the path of prosperity.
Our goal is to achieve 25 percent forest coverage: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said when we first came to power in 1996, the forest coverage the country was only seven percent, which we have been able to increase to 17 percent today.
We are working towards the goal of a 25 percent afforestation in the whole country. “People need food and nutrition just as they need to protect the country’s natural environment,” he said. That is why we need to plant this tree.
I have decided that everyone should plant a fruit tree, a forest tree, and a herb. So today, I planted a tamarind tree, and Chalta and a Chhatian tree.
Highlighting the usefulness of the trees planted by her, Sheikh Hasina said that the Chhatian tree is very big and thick, which is very good as wood. And when we hear about tamarind, just like water comes to our tongue, we also remember your childhood.
It is also very beneficial for the body. For someone with high blood pressure, tamarind is very useful to keep the body cool. And the leaves and flowers of the tree look beautiful as well as it has many qualities.
The Prime Minister said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman inaugurated the program by planting trees himself after independence. We are carrying out this program in his memory, and we are carrying out this program every year.
The Awami League president said the Krishak League, an affiliate of the Awami League, has carried out tree planting programs all over the country every year since 1984. Leaders and workers of all the affiliated organizations, including the main organization, participate in it.
