Rizwana Hasan Calls for Greater Awareness on Reducing Unnecessary Honking
The environmental advisor mentioned that many drivers honk unnecessarily, causing disturbance to people around them. If unnecessary honking from buses, trucks, or cars is avoided, it can help prevent various health problems.
On Tuesday, at a noise awareness training for trainers from the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority and the Imam Training Academy of the Islamic Foundation, held at the Department of Environment, Rizwana Hasan expressed these views as the chief guest.
She highlighted that drivers often start honking as soon as the traffic light turns green, which is not appropriate. Before honking, they should consider whether it’s truly necessary.
All drivers need to be made aware of not honking unnecessarily, especially during times when children are being taken to school, as loud noises, such as those from rickshaws, can cause ear problems.
Rizwana Hasan further stated that Islam encourages speaking in a low voice rather than loudly. Communication should be done in a manner that doesn’t irritate others.
People often think that the louder they speak, the more powerful they appear, but in reality, the ability to speak logically is the real power. Changes at a personal level can bring about broader societal and national transformations.
Other speakers at the closing ceremony included the Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, the Director General of the Department of Environment, and the Director of the Integrated and Participatory Project for Noise Pollution Control.
