Sustainable plastic waste management should be ensured to protect the environment
A workshop was held on ‘Sustainable Plastic Waste Management’ at FBCCI Innovation and Research Centre at noon in Dhaka on August 21, 2024.
At the workshop, people from education, research, policy, and business talked about managing plastic waste sustainably and its opportunities and challenges.
In the workshop speakers emphasized on producers’ responsibility on financing plastics garbage management, encouraging such type design so that it can easily possible to reuse, recycle and repair and to ensure collecting it for reusing by them.
An expert said that out of 8.25 produced plastic garbage only 36% was reused in Bangladesh in 2019 against 51% in 2006.
In 2019, more plastic garbage was produced than in 2006, according to Professor Ezaz Ahmed, former Dean of the Engineering and Technological Department of BUET.
He said, “Labor and capital combined are a part of Bangladesh’s economy which are playing a very important role both for internal and export markets.”
“In Bangladesh town areas, per capita plastic use is increased at 9 kg in 2020 from 3 kg in 2005. Per capita plastic use in Dhaka is much more, which is 24 kg. In the world’s $570 billion market, Bangladesh’s part is only 0.6%,” he informed.
“To confirm increase of plastic industrial growth, Bangladesh government has taken decision to make policy and regulation on it. In 2022- 23, Bangladesh earned 1342.70 thousand crores by exporting plastic and plastic products,” he added.
He opined that promoting “Sustainable Plastic Waste Management” will play a positive role in respect of Bangladesh. He opined that in promotion of “Sustainable Plastic Waste Management” will play a positive role in the context of Bangladesh.
Plastic waste is spreading out all around us. And increasing of so much plastic waste around us means it is being harmed the environment. We must stand up against plastic waste pollution and find a solution to combat it.
We need to be conscious of it. Reusing plastic is not only necessary to us, it is essential. For that we have to come forward for it.
There are many entrepreneurs who are investing slowly in the plastic waste reusing sector and thinking how it can proceed in separate new way. Hearing their problems seem to be easy, but it’s are so hard applying in the real field.
Nevertheless, the plastic fighters are fighting to reduce the use of plastic in the society keeping the economic progress. Along with they are trying develop the environment.
