The government is working to prevent environmental pollution – A Bangladesh National Parliament’s Member

The current government, especially the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Bangladesh, is doing extensive work to prevent air pollution and overall environmental pollution, said Tanveer Shakeel Joy, a member of the parliamentary standing committee on the (MOEFCC), Bangladesh.

He said, within the next 5 years, the government will bring significant changes to prevent environmental pollution and air pollution. Air pollution cannot be prevented by just sprinkling water. This is a temporary solution; we need to work on a long-term effective solution.

We must stop the sources of air pollution. Waste should be turned into a resource so that it does not pollute the air by burning waste. Which will have financial value, so that no one will lose by burning valuable waste.

He expressed these things during a recent seminar organized by the Children and Youth Forum at the Press Institute Bangladesh. It was organized jointly by the Center for Atmospheric Pollution Studies – CAPS and World Vision Bangladesh.

He said, it cannot be solved easily if anyone wants. Airflow occurs when there are no obstructions, allowing air to move naturally. Discussions have already started in international circles about geopolitical pollution.

To reduce the air pollution of transport, avoid fossil fuel-based transport and use environment friendly electric vehicles. The government is working on electric vehicles and reducing VAT tax in this sector.

Haider Ali, General Manager of Transport Department of Dhaka South City Corporation, said, “I believe institutional initiatives should be strengthened to prevent air pollution. Allotments received for prevention of air pollution should be properly monitored, and proper utilization should be ensured.”

Public health expert Dr. Lelin Chowdhury said, “We have to work to prevent air pollution at the individual level as well. Household and workplace waste should be disposed of properly and properly. Private level initiatives will greatly help in speeding up government work. We will all work but the government will lead.”

In the Chair’s speech, Professor Dr. Ahmad Kamruzzaman Majumdar the founding chairman of CAPS, said that clean air is the right of people, but the residents of Dhaka city are deprived of this right.

The burning of biofuels is releasing toxic gases into the air which is degrading the air quality. So, if fossil fuels are phased out and renewable energy is ensured, it will be possible to ensure clean air and energy security for all.

Nadia Farzana, Additional Superintendent of Police of Bangladesh Tourist Police; Advocate Rasheduzzaman Majumdar of Bangladesh Supreme Court; Research Eng. Md. Nashir Ahmed Patwari, Coordinator of Environment Initiative; Sohanur Rahman, Executive Coordinator, YouthNet for Climate Justice;  Manju Maria Palma, Deputy Director (Field Program Operations) of World Vision Bangladesh; Dr. Mahmuda Parveen, Associate Professor of Environmental Science of Stamford University, Bangladesh among others were present at event.
