Climate agreement or the promise of world leaders, nothing seems to be going to stop the environmental catastrophe. To stem the tide of climate change, the United Nations proposes reducing the use of fossil fuels, stopping deforestation, increasing forest cover, and even reducing meat consumption.

At this juncture, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has released a report on the effects of climate change.

The three-episode report said that the world is still far from achieving the target of keeping global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2030.

The IPCC says that if temperatures continue to rise, the rate will drop to 3.2 by the century. Therefore, practical and significant steps need now to prevent the final consequences of environmental catastrophe, not just empty rhetoric.

Various organizations working on climate change say they have held climate conferences for the past few years. There is a global struggle to protect the environment amid world leaders’ promises.

Concerned parties say, “The report of IPCC is a shame for us. World leaders are not keeping their promises. As a result, the world is becoming uninhabitable day by day. Moreover, we are rushing towards the final result of environmental disaster in this. We saw some hope at the last climate conference.”

World leaders pledge to reduce carbon emissions. However, sadly, the emission levels are still 14 percent higher than in the last decade, the highest in history.

The IPCC also warned that humanity would face the ultimate consequences of climate change by the end of this century unless effective action gets taken immediately. The agency has been reporting on climate change every five years since 1990.
