What will happen if all the ice on Earth melts?

What will happen if all the ice on Earth melts?

The global temperature is increasing due to various reasons, including climate change. At the same time, the temperature of the sea is also increasing. As a result, the ice in the polar regions and large glaciers are melting rapidly. And so, scientists have been concerned about the rate of ice melting for a long time. They have also warned about the potentially dire consequences of ice melting.

If all the ice on Earth melts, the picture of our planet will change. The blue sphere that can be seen from space will no longer be visible. Studies show varying predictions on sea level rise from melting ice and its impacts on different regions.

Scientists believe that if all the ice on Earth melts, the sea level will rise by about 65 to 70 meters. This huge amount of water will destroy coastal areas and low-lying island countries. If ice melting in the polar regions continues at the current rate, sea levels will rise significantly over the next few centuries.

Reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) predict that sea levels will rise due to melting ice.

According to scientists, if the huge ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica melt, a terrible situation will arise. If the sea level rises by 70 meters, many important cities and populated areas of the world will be submerged under water.

Countries like the Maldives, the Netherlands, including the coastal areas of Bangladesh, will be at risk. Apart from this, important cities like Venice, New York, London, Tokyo, Shanghai and Mumbai will be affected. Various island countries will be at the highest risk. Many small island countries like the Maldives, Kiribati, Tuvalu will be wiped off the map forever.

Coastal agricultural lands and freshwater sources, in addition to cities and island countries, will also suffer serious damage from salt water.

This will result in reduced food production and a shortage of clean water. This will deeply affect the world’s economy and social structure. However, this catastrophe will not happen in a day. If the current rate of ice melting continues, the sea level could rise by up to one meter by the end of this century.
