The ‘Go Green’ initiative has started at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi
The UAE will host COP 28in 2023. In light of climate change and global environmental concerns, in the presence of Professor Nathalie Drach-Temam, Professor Silvia Serrano, and Vice-Chancellor of Sorbonne University, Abu Dhabi, along with members of the academic, administrative, and student bodies, inaugurated the initiative “Go Green 2023.”
“Go Green 2023” aims to raise awareness among the university community about climate change and increase students’ capacity and participation in initiatives to contribute to climate change challenges and environmental concerns and move towards a more sustainable direction.
Organized by the University’s Department of Geography and Planning, the initiative focuses on three key themes: carbon footprint reduction, sustainable development activities, and the initiation of collaborative environmental research.
In this regard, Professor Silvia Serrano said, “This initiative was launched to integrate students into global events to raise awareness of present environmental issues, share practical solutions, empower students to think innovatively and critically, promote sustainable development, and strengthen the university’s role as a research-led institution.”
The “Go Green” initiative complements the Paris Agreement (COP-21), which sets the benchmark for global efforts to improve climate change and increase governments’ long-term ambition and commitment to environmental protection.
The initiative commits to a more sustainable environment. It aligns with the university’s CSR initiatives to contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by reducing carbon emissions and improving resilience against climate change.
