Jute products’ use should increase to protect the environment: Environment Minister, Bangladesh
Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Minister, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Bangladesh, said,
“The Bangladesh government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various initiatives to spread eco-friendly and biodegradable Bangladeshi jute products all over the world, including Bhutan.”
During the recent inauguration of the exhibition centre for Bangladeshi jute products organized by the Bangladesh Embassy in Thimphu, Bhutan.
Saber Chowdhury said that Bhutan-Bangladesh friendship has been strengthened by setting up an exhibition center for Bangladeshi jute products abroad for the first time. This will not only protect the environment but will also play a positive role in bilateral trade.
Officials from the Government of Bhutan, including the Foreign Minister, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Employment, Minister of Health, Minister of Power and Natural Resources, along with the Foreign Secretary and Secretary of Natural Resources, attended the event.
After the inauguration, Bhutanese leaders and businessmen toured the Bangladeshi jute products and exhibition center. Bangladesh jute products like bags, shoes, carpets, tissue boxes, kitchen items, clothing, office files, conference files, pen holders, and home furnishings impressed them. They opined that a permanent market for Bangladeshi jute products would soon develop in Bhutan.
Bhutanese leaders and businessmen liked the quality and eco-friendly aspect of jute products. They want to explore more trade and collaboration in this area. This visit was an important step in improving trade ties and promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly business practices between the two countries.
According to embassy sources, the quantity and number of jute products will be increased in the near future. As a result, the market for Bangladeshi jute products will develop in different cities of Bhutan.
