Buses older than 20 years should be removed from roads in Bangladesh to reduce air pollution

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Bangladesh, has asked the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to remove buses and minibuses older than 20 years and trucks and covered vans older than 25 years to help reduce air pollution. The letter was issued on October 16.

The letter calls for mandatory emission tests when issuing fitness certificates for old diesel buses and trucks.

The Ministry of Environment’s press release states that, following the National Committee on Air Pollution Control meetings, BRTA must remove unfit vehicles from the roads and require emission tests for old diesel buses and trucks in Dhaka during their fitness assessments.
