A Bicycle Rally was held in Dhaka to raise awareness about environmental pollution prevention and good health
A colorful Bicycle Rally has held at Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh, on December 30, 2022, to create mass awareness about the benefit of cycling.
Cycling helps improve the environment, saves foreign money from importing fossil fuels, and helps maintain good health. The rally demanded bicycle parking throughout the country and creating a cyclic network throughout the country.
Royal Fitness Studio, Bangladesh Tourist Cyclist, Fit Bangladesh, and Amra Danmondi Bashi (We the People Dhanmondi) jointly organized the cycle rally.
The cycle rally started from Bangladesh Friendship Hospital premises and ended at Royal Fitness Studio on Jhikatola Road around Bus Stand No. 15 on Satmasjid Road in Dhanmondi.
Around a hundred women and men of different age groups enthusiastically participated in the rally. On a foggy winter morning, cyclists from far and wide gathered in front of Friendship Hospital in Dhanmondi to participate.
Aminul Islam Tubbus, the Chief Coordinator of Bangladesh Tourist Cyclist, thanked the organizers and the cyclists who spontaneously participated in the rally for organizing such a cycle rally to raise public awareness of environmental pollution and build a healthy body at the end of Victory month of Bangladesh.
Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, the Superintending Engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board and the chief advisor of “Green Page,” spoke at the rally.
He explained how much air pollution is being caused by the use of fuel-powered motor vehicles and its adverse effect on the increase in global temperature.
The distinguished environmentalist said, “By increasing the number of bicycles, we can reduce the pollution of the environment. In addition, the role of bicycles in creating good health, reducing traffic congestion, and saving foreign exchange in the country.”
He expressed disappointment and said that the biggest obstacle to expanding the use of bicycles is the need for safer bicycle parking anywhere in the country.
However, there is a safe motor vehicle parking system in markets, offices, courts, and here and there. But, no bicycle parking system is seen in the whole of the country.
Even in houses and apartment buildings, there is no bicycle parking for adults and children. Therefore, our society should raise awareness about removing all these obstacles to increase the use of bicycles in the country.
Manjur Hossain Isa, Chairman of the National Human Rights Association, paid his honor and respect to the father of the Nation and the martyrs. He said,
“The world will plunge into crisis due to climate change. So, to overcome this crisis, we must create awareness and prevent environmental pollution.”
Tanisha, a famous beautician, thanked the organizers for this public awareness program, felt blessed to be present in such an event, and expressed her desire to participate spontaneously.
Model Imran Khan inspired everyone to ride a bicycle by describing the benefits of bicycles in keeping the environment clean and healthy. In her speech, Miss Ria of Royal Fitness Studio emphasized the importance of cycling in building good health.
The rally ended with distribution of gifts among the Cyclists and refreshments to all the participants.
