ADB will assist Bangladesh to clean rivers using AI technology: Environment Advisor, Bangladesh
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser of the current interim government of Bangladesh, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, (MOEFCC), Bangladesh,
said the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will assist Bangladesh in implementing low-cost river cleaning projects for important rivers, including Buriganga, Turag and Balu. ADB will also support the implementation of climate action plans, including national adaptation plans.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan held a meeting with ADB Country Director Edimon Ginting at the Bangladesh Secretariat on August 25, 2024. In the meeting, emphasis was placed on involving the private sector and youth in environmental protection activities.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan requested ADB’s help to establish a training institute for Department of Environment officials, emphasizing the need for capacity building.
The Environment Advisor appreciated ADB’s ongoing support for various projects related to the environment and climate change in Bangladesh.
She emphasized on strengthening Bangladesh’s resilience against climate change and continued cooperation to ensure sustainable development. She mentioned innovative approaches and financing mechanisms to effectively address this challenge.
Edimon Ginting reiterated ADB’s commitment to helping Bangladesh achieve its environmental and climate goals. She announced support for river cleaning efforts using AI technology and discussed future plans to expand their initiatives.
The Environment Advisor has been invited to speak at the high-level session of the Climate Adaptation Investment Planning Forum. The forum will take place at the ADB headquarters in Manila, Philippines on September 17-18, 2024.
