Africa’s Great Green Wall: 25% target achieved and ecosystem recovery

Africa’s 8,000-kilometer-long ‘Great Green Wall’ project to stop the expansion of the Sahara Desert was 25% complete in 2026. It is the largest land reclamation project in modern history.

Miyakwaki Method: This afforestation is using the Japanese ‘Miyakwaki’ method, where trees grow 10 times faster than normal forests. In 2026, it was found that soil fertility went up by 30% in the places where the wall was built, and local people stopped moving away due to climate change.

Carbon Sequestration: This project is earning billions of dollars from the international carbon credit market. Sahel countries are now earning more by protecting trees than by cutting down trees. This success in 2026 proves that it is possible to re-green the desert with collective efforts.
