Amazon is burning in the worst fire in the last 20 years
Brazil’s Amazon rainforest is burning in a terrible fire. The whole sky is covered with black smoke. The fire burned about 600 square kilometers of forest to ashes, 33 percent more than last year, Reuters reported.
According to the report, every year the Amazon rainforest in Brazil is affected by fires. But this time the picture is slightly different. This forest has been affected by the worst fire in the last 20 years.
According to analysts, Brazil’s part of the Amazon forest is facing its worst situation in 20 years due to record global temperatures. Firefighters are working to extinguish the fire.
Experts have said that these fires are caused by global warming and climate change. This year’s wildfires could be a tough test for Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva,
who gained global fame on Brazil’s environmental improvements before hosting the United Nations climate summit last year. A study published this week suggests the fires may release more carbon dioxide from the region.
In July, deforestation in Brazil’s Amazon increased significantly compared to the previous year, as reported by INPE, an environmental research organization.
But the government insisted deforestation was 27 percent lower year-to-date than in the first seven months of 2023.
