Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, said, “Bangladesh is at the forefront of implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

She made these remarks at a press conference to brief on the 76th session of the UN General Assembly and high-level discussions on the sidelines.

The Prime Minister said that the Covid-19 pandemic got most of the attention at the 76th session of the UN. The core of the discussion was about the sustainable transition from the pandemic. This discussion also prioritizes the issues of climate change.

She glorifies the honor of getting the SDG progress award and expresses her gratitude saying, “Bangladesh is the only country that was most pioneering in the implementation of SDGs.”

Since the corona pandemic is still going on, this press conference happened with adequate preventive measures. Journalists were sitting at the edge of the Prime Minister’s Office. The prime minister joined the press conference through video calling from her official residence Ganobhaban.

However, some of the guests got the opportunity to participate in the press conference directly at Ganobhaban.

After attending the UN General Assembly, the Prime Minister returned to Bangladesh on October 1. Earlier, the Prime Minister reached New York on September 19 to attend the 76th UN General Assembly after a two-day visit to Helsinki, the capital of Finland.

During her stay in New York from 19 to September 24, the Prime Minister attended several high-level and closed-door meetings. At the same time, she attended several bilateral meetings with the heads of different governments, states, and organizations.

Later on September 25, the Prime Minister left New York for Washington DC. During her stay in New York, Sheikh Hasina addressed the 76th session of the UN General Assembly on September 24.

On the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangladesh, the Prime Minister planted a sapling in the UN Garden on the North Lawn of the UN Headquarters on September 20 and inaugurated a bench in the name of Bangabandhu (Sheikh Mujibur Rahman).

At the press conference, the Prime Minister described that moment as ‘joyful.’ “This is the first initiative to pay homage to a political leader at the UN headquarters. A rare honor for Bangladesh. It is a pleasure for me to be able to plant a tree at the headquarters.” said the PM.

On February 26 this year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina came to the last press conference on the least developed countries (LDC) ascension.
