The campaign for the mobile court to control noise pollution in Rajshahi city is continuing. The Department of Environment (DOE), Rajshahi, Bangladesh, has conducted an hour-long mobile court in the Kajla Gate area of Rajshahi University.
The DEO has been operating a mobile court in Rajshahi since it became the fourth largest in terms of noise pollution.
Mosa Atia Khatun, Executive Magistrate of Rajshahi District Administration, and Kabir Hossain, Assistant Director of DEO, Rajshahi, directed the mobile court. At that time, a team of Rajshahi district administration and police members assisted the DEO.
During the Mobile court, a truck driver was fined BDT.1000 for excessive horn blowing and prohibited hydraulic horns.
Several motorists were alerted and distributed leaflets at the Mobile court. The DOE has stated that this campaign will continue in the public interest.
Rajshahi ranks fourth among the top cities globally in terms of noise pollution. This information has come up in a global report published by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) (2022) on noise intensity.
The report titled ‘Frontiers 2022: Noise, Blazes and Mismatches’ states that the maximum noise intensity in Dhaka is 119 decibels and 103 decibels in Rajshahi city.
A recent study conducted by a local company also revealed the truth of this information. The study also found the intensity of unbearable noise in Rajshahi city.
Since then, the DOE has set up a mobile court to control noise pollution. Earlier, on April 25, the mobile court has conducted in the Talaimari area of the city.
