There are more than 18,000 species of butterflies in the world. Of these, about 1,500 species are in the Indian subcontinent.

A recent study by Professor Monowar Hossain Tuhin found over 420 species in Bangladesh.

The Bangladesh Red List by the IUCN includes 305 butterfly species. Butterflies play a very important role in the environment. The contribution of butterflies can be explained in several key aspects.

The decline in the number of butterflies is a warning sign for the environment. Due to pesticide use, deforestation, and climate change, butterfly habitats are decreasing. Planting trees, reducing pesticide use, and maintaining their suitable environment are essential for their conservation.
