China‘s carbon emissions rates are immense and continue to increase over time. According to a new analysis of Carbon Brief, in the first quarter of 2021, China’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions grew at their fastest rate in more than a decade. More precisely, China’s CO2 emissions from fossil fuels (Octane, Petrol, Diesel, etc.) and cement production increased by 14.5%, relative to the same period a year earlier. Therefore, experts agree that the world will not win the fight against climate change without significantly reducing China’s carbon emissions.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that his country will achieve “Carbon neutrality” by 2060. By this time, China will achieve a balance between accepting and rejecting carbon dioxide from nature. But Xi Jinping did not disclose how China would accomplish this ambitious goal.

Reducing carbon emissions is a challenge for all countries that is the biggest challenge for China. Since China’s per capita carbon emissions are relatively high.

China has a large population. Again, the country’s economic growth is much higher. Due to this, China’s carbon emissions are higher than any other country in the world.

With an annual output of 10.06 billion metric tons of CO2, China is the world’s largest contributor to CO2 emissions. Over 27 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas  emissions came from just China.

Many experts believe that China can achieve the goal of reducing emissions. But it will require some significant policy changes.

Coal has been China’s leading source of energy for decades. The use of coal is increasing day by day in the country.

President Xi Jinping has announced that China will reduce its use of coal from 2026. But his announcement got criticism. Many countries and environmentalists criticize Beijing for not taking the initiative to reduce using coal before 2026.

Researchers at Tsinghua University in Beijing said that China wouldn’t fulfill the required electricity demand by establishing nuclear and renewable energy sources forbidding coal before 2050.

When this is the case, China is building new coal-fired power plants instead of shutting them down. Construction of new coal-based centers is going on in 60 places across the country. Construction of Multiple centers in the same place is also going on.

China argues that Beijing has the right to do what the West has done in the past. That means China will develop its economy in exchange for carbon dioxide emissions. Will alleviate poverty from their country.

China is constructing coal-fired power plants inside its country and financing the construction of coal-fired power plants outside the country.

But China itself is a victim of pollution. Air pollution is a severe problem for many cities in the country. Nevertheless, China’s carbon emissions continue to rise.

However, China is also taking some positive initiatives for the environment. For example, they are moving towards ‘green energy‘ or environmentally friendly fuels. China is developing environmentally friendly technologies.

China is collecting more solar energy than any other country in the world. However, the amount of accumulated solar power is not satisfactory compared to the population of China. China is generating electricity from the wind. They are making and buying electric cars.

In addition, China is implementing greening projects. China is greening faster than any other country in the world. They have undertaken afforestation projects to reduce pollution and soil erosion. They are growing multiple crops on the same land every year.

All these initiative taken by china is positive for the environment. But they aren’t enough compared to China’s rate of carbon emissions.
