Youth must come together and lead for climate justice: Minister of State for Relief, Bangladesh
Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Bangladesh, has urged the youth to take appropriate leadership in the country to reduce the risk of adverse effects of climate and ensure justice.
He asked the youth to find a solution to the climate crisis based on climate justice or working to protect the planet reasonably.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the Dhaka Climate Talk 2022 event organized at the Liberation War Museum auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The State Minister said, “Climate change is a dire reality in the world, especially for climate-prone countries like Bangladesh.
However, this adversity has opened a unique door for us to find innovative sustainable solutions. We are facing several challenges in terms of climate change. In addition to the recent Cyclone Cyclone Strang, the frequency of natural disasters is increasing at an unprecedented rate.
Solving this problem is of the utmost importance, as these disasters affect the country’s poor the most. The impact of such natural calamities is more visible in our agriculture sector.”
Stating that Bangladesh has achieved significant progress in disaster risk management, the State Minister said, “Our young generation has creative solutions to reduce the loss of resources.
Youth can develop a suitable weather forecasting system for each community, especially considering geographical location, language, and the nature of climate hazards existing in its area.
Our youth could lead positive changes in the environment and people’s quality of life in Bangladesh as green entrepreneurs to solve the sustainable nature-based climate crisis.”
The minister continued and said, “The big problem in our country is the poor population. Disasters make their lives more vulnerable.
It is important to take initiatives for sustainable and nature-friendly business lifestyles so that people can prepare to deal with risks.”
