Activities against the environment are unacceptable in any form – Minister of Environment, Bangladesh
Md Shahab Uddin, the Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFFC), Bangladesh, said, “To give the people of Bangladesh a pollution-free and livable environment, all the necessary initiatives will implement to improve the environment following the specific instructions given by Hon’ble Prime minister Sheikh Hasina. “No one will be allowed to do things that pollute the environment and accelerate climate change,” he firmly warned.
He made these remarks while attending an online workshop titled “Improving Bilateral Relations on Environment: Context and Planning” organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change online on Thursday on August 26, 2021.
“A specific action plan will formulate through an inter-ministerial meeting to ensure the overall development of the environment by preventing all types of pollution, including water, air, and noise pollution in the country,” he continued.
“Industries that have not set up an effluent treatment plant (ETP) yet have to take the necessary measures to set one. A virtual monitoring system is expect to implement soon to check the availability and running time of ETP in every industry,” he added.
Deputy Minister Begum Habibun Nahar was also present at the workshop chaired by Mostafa Kamal, Secretary of the MoEFFC.
At the meeting, the Joint Secretary (Administration), Dr Md. Ashfaqul Islam Babul presented the inspection report and recommendations of the Bangladesh delegation to the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering to improve bilateral relations on environmental issues.
Among others, Mohammad Moniruzzaman, the Additional Secretary of the Ministry (Environmental Pollution Control), Mohammad Ashraf Uddin, Director General of the Department of Environment and Professor Dr Tariqul Islam, Sylhet Agricultural University Pso spoke in the meeting. Senior officials of the ministry and its affiliates attended the meeting virtually.
