Formation of an All-Party Parliamentary Caucus in the Bangladesh National Parliament to Address Climate Change and Displacement Risks

A special all-party ‘Parliamentary Caucus’ has been established in the National Parliament, aimed at ensuring the security of individuals displaced or rendered homeless due to climate change, and at directly involving parliamentarians in addressing global climate risks.

On 14 October 2026, during a special session of the Sonar Manush Sammelan 2026 (Golden People’s Conference 2026) held at a hotel in the capital, the Parliamentary Caucus on Climate Change and Displacement was formally introduced, and its strategic framework was unveiled.

Core Goals and Global Strategy: In the meeting, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal and Caucus Chair Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, along with Members of Parliament from different political parties, highlighted the need for a plan about climate refugees:

  • Identifying Local Risks and Suggestions: With this new group in Parliament, Members of Parliament will find climate-related dangers in areas at risk of disasters and along the coast in their districts. They will work on making policy suggestions to help people who have been moved because of problems like riverbank erosion and salty soil. They will also push for extra funds in the national budget.
  • Joint Diplomacy at COP31: Bangladesh’s role in past global carbon emissions is very small, but it is one of the countries hardest hit by climate change. Members of the group have promised to support—both in the country and at worldwide meetings, like the upcoming COP31 conference—for the fair rights of people forced to leave their homes due to climate change and for getting international payment.

Conclusion and ‘Green Page’ View: Climate change is causing people to move. It’s not just a theory anymore; it’s a real problem for every area in the country.

Green Page believes this all-party group in Parliament should take action, not just speak. They need to help make a budget that can handle climate issues and support laws to aid affected individuals.
