The river should protect the welfare of workers
Around 75% of workers in the Aminbazar area of Dhaka City are now out of work due to river pollution. Everyone has to take steps to save the river from every place. If the river does not survive, the wharf will not survive. As a result, the workers will be out of work.
On August 02, 2022, a community meeting was organized jointly by Amin Bazar Bridge Wharf Workers Union and Waterkeepers Bangladesh Consortium to ensure that the Turag River is free from pollution and encroachment.
The meeting takes place at Aminbazar Landing Station Ghat. Ibnul Saeed Rana, President of the Nirapad Development Foundation, addressed the meeting.
In the chief guest’s speech, Mirza Shaukat Ali, a freedom fighter commander, said, “Everyone should be aware of river protection and participate in anti-pollution activities.”
Ziaur Rahman, General Secretary of Turag River Front, said, “We have created our destruction by destroying the river due to our lack of proper planning. So, everyone has to take steps to save the river. If the river does not survive, the wharf will not survive. Moreover, the workers will remain unemployed if the wharf destroys. “
Amjad Ali Lal, General Secretary of Aminbazar Wharf Workers’ Union, said, “Due to river pollution, 75 percent of workers in Aminbazar area are now out of work.”
