Bangladesh demands substantial financing and technology transfer to face the climate challenge

Bangladesh demands substantial financing and technology transfer to face the climate challenge

Bangladesh has called on other countries for climate finance, resettlement of climate migrants, and transfer of green technology to face the challenges of climate change.

AK Abdul Momen, Foreign Minister, highlighted this position of Bangladesh in a separate bilateral meeting with the IMF chief and Dutch ministers in addition to the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) meeting in Rotterdam, Netherlands.



The Foreign Minister also held a bilateral meeting with Barbara Visser, the Dutch Infrastructure and Water Management Minister. In that meeting, Bangladesh sought the help of the Netherlands in implementing various projects under the Delta Plan 2100.

He also explained the need for dams to protect against sea level rise, river erosion, and flooding. He requested the advice and assistance of the Dutch in the construction of embankments and dykes in this regard.

AK Abdul Momen, said that the Dutch government could help Bangladesh with water management in the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) established in different parts of Bangladesh.

Netherlands Minister Barbara Visar assured Foreign Minister Momen of continued Dutch support for the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100. He also pledged to work together to tackle the challenge of climate change.

Foreign Minister Momen also held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands, Tom de Bruijn.
