Again, Dhaka placed at the Top in air pollution

Three days ago, it was at the top of the pollution list among 126 cities in the world for three consecutive days.

Today, on December 14, the air pollution level in Dhaka is 287, which was very unhealthy. This air condition is very risky for healthy people, especially those with skin diseases, respiratory problems, and asthma.

On the other hand, Kolkata, of India, is in second place with a pollution level of 223. Lahore, of Pakistan, is in third place with an air pollution level of 213, which are also very unhealthy.

The air pollution level is determined using the Air Quality Index (AQI).

Air pollution poses serious health risks. It is harmful to people of all ages. However, it is especially harmful to children, the sick, the elderly and pregnant women.

A report published earlier this year found that the world used record amounts of oil, coal and gas last year. These have pushed global warming carbon pollution to new heights.

In Bangladesh, the Air Quality Index (AQI) is calculated using five key pollution indicators. They are particulate matter (PM 10 and PM 2.5), NO 2, CO, SO 2 and ozone (O 3).

A recent report from the Department of Environment, Bangladesh and the World Bank identifies brick kilns, vehicle exhaust, and construction dust as the top three sources of air pollution in Dhaka.
