Clear orders to bring back biodiversity
Sunamganj’s Ramsar site “Tanguar Haor” was losing its natural balance due to excessive tourists and illegal leaseholders. The Bangladesh government has completely banned playing microphones, using generators on houseboats and one-time plastic there to protect the haor ecosystem.
Activities:
Protection of bird sanctuaries: To protect winter migratory birds, certain parts of the haor have been declared ‘Zones’ by banning tourists.
Eviction of illegal nets: Illegal current nets and China Duari nets, which destroy fish fry, are being burned.
The government’s plan to turn Tanguar Haor into a true eco-tourism spot, instead of a commercial entertainment center, is very good.
