Sweeping operation to ban hydraulic horns on highways in Bangladesh: Thousands of illegal horns seized at night

Strong steps to restore silence on highways: Sweeping operation against hydraulic horns in the dark of night

After the busyness of the day, when the whole goes to sleep at night, the reckless rampage of buses and trucks begins on long-distance highways in Bangladesh. The loud noise from illegal hydraulic horns in vehicles really disturbs the daily life in nearby areas, including homes, hospitals, schools, and wildlife close to the highway.

The Ministry of Environment and Communications, Bangladesh, has finally taken a joint strict stand to prevent this silent killer of noise pollution. The concerned authorities have launched a combing operation against banned hydraulic horns on the country’s main highways at night.

Steps and punishments for the operation: This time, the administration will not just give warnings or small fines for breaking the noise pollution rules. A zero tolerance policy has been taken to curb crime on the spot:

Destruction of horns on the spot: Buses or trucks plying on the highways that are found to have banned and high-quality hydraulic horns are being removed from the vehicles immediately. Then, those harmful horns are being permanently destroyed by crushing them with a hammer in public so that they can never be used again.

Cancellation of fitness and route permits: Administrative measures have been tightened against drivers and transport owners who violate the law. If a vehicle commits the same offense more than once, clear orders have been given to permanently cancel its commercial route permit and fitness certificate.

Far-reaching impact on public health and wildlife: Noise pollution not only damages human hearing, but also poses a major threat to the entire ecosystem.

Loud noises from hydraulic horns (which can be over 100 decibels) can harm both the mind and body. They can speed up heart rates, lead to high blood pressure, and cause insomnia and depression over time. This noise pollution is a serious obstacle in the growth of children.

Wildlife damage: The loud sound of these horns creates serious problems for the breeding and survival of nighttime animals and birds in forests or rural areas near highways. Many times, wildlife, out of fear, comes onto the main roads and gets crushed under vehicles and dies.

Sustainable change and future outlook: This highway combing campaign is not only about law enforcement; it helps create a healthy culture in the transportation industry. Unless awareness is created among the owners and workers, it is difficult to completely stop this crime just because of the fear of punishment. Therefore, emphasis is being placed on awareness meetings with transport workers and the use of alternative soft horns.

Conclusion and Green Page’s perspective: Noise pollution is one of the silent crises of our environment today. This brave plan by the government of Bangladesh to control noise pollution is impressive. It covers not just the capital and big cities, but also highways and towns all over the country.

Green Page thinks that only by working together with the leaders and the people can we change our surroundings into a peaceful, comfortable, and healthy place to live.
