Green ratings for hotels and motels in Cox’s Bazar and Kuakata in Bangladesh: New eco-friendly rules in tourism

In coastal tourist centers, untreated waste from hotels and motels is discharged directly into the sea. To stop this pollution, the government has launched ‘Green Rating’ or eco-friendly rules for hotels in Cox’s Bazar and Kuakata, Bangladesh.

Standards and obligations:

Waste treatment is mandatory: The license renewal of hotels that do not have their own sewage treatment plant (STP) is being suspended.

Reduction in plastic use: Hotels have been instructed to use large refillable dispensers instead of small plastic shampoo bottles or water bottles for guests.

Conclusion: The green rating system implemented by the Bangladesh government will contribute to making tourism sustainable. It will also protect the country’s ocean environment from major disasters.
