Bihar: 26 People Killed In 24 Hours Due To Thunderbolt

On July 2, 2020, at least 26 people have been killed in lightning strikes in Bihar, India, as informed by the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority.

At least 26 people were killed in eight districts of the state on Thursday, the report said. Apart from Patna, there are Samastipur, East Champaran, West Champaran, Sheohar, Katihar, Madhepura, and Purnia.

Of these eight states, Samastipur had the highest death toll at seven.

Six people were killed in a lightning strike in Patna, Four people died in East Champaran, three in Katihar. Two died each in Sheohar and Madhepura. One died in West Champaran and Purnia.

Earlier on Tuesday, June 30, 11 people were killed in lightning strikes in five districts in Bihar. On June 25, 93 people died in 23 districts in the middle east region in India.

Mr.Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar, has directed the concerned district administration to hand over Tk.4 lakh as compensation to the relatives of the deceased (Tk.10 lakh = 1 million).

Just a week ago, at least 97 people died in daylight by lightning across the Bihar. Another 28 more people were killed in two consecutive lightning strikes before the incident.

Many people die every year in India and neighboring Bangladesh due to lightning. However, with the help of modern technology, Odisha has been reduced the death toll from lightning.

Odisha, reduced the deaths about 31 percent by lightning being issuing an early warning of thunder in collaboration with a private US company.
