Bangladesh and Denmark will work together on various issues related to climate change

Bangladesh and Denmark will work together on various issues related to climate change, including water treatment, waste, and toxic water management, increasing use of renewable energy and solar energy, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Winnie Estrap Peterson, Danish Ambassador, pledged to work on these issues during a courtesy call with MD. Shahab Uddin, Minister of Forests, Environment and Climate Change, Bangladesh, in the Ministry’s conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat on November 26, 2020.
During the discussion, the Danish Ambassador expressed interest in turning the Chattogram seaport into a green port. He said Denmark would help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, protect the environment, and increase institutional capacity. He offered to assist Bangladesh in achieving energy efficiency, agriculture, and all other environmentally friendly activities.
MD. Shahab Uddin said Denmark has been providing continuous support to Bangladesh since independence. He said the present government is working relentlessly to address the negative effects of climate change and control environmental pollution.
Mentioning that Bangladesh is leading in various international forums on climate change, the Forest Minister said that the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina is currently serving as the Chairperson of the Climate Vulnerability Forum.
Moreover, establishing a regional office of the Global Center for Adaptation in Dhaka will enable Bangladesh to play a stronger role in climate issues.
In the discussion, it was agreed that the two countries would move together by identifying the importance of cooperation. They also agreed to deepen cooperation between the two countries in the United Nations and other international forums.
