A Chinese scientist discovered a carbon dioxide-absorbing material
Chou Chihui, a PhD student at the University of California, has found a new material that rapidly absorbs carbon dioxide from the air. This discovery could be an important breakthrough in the fight against climate change.
The substance discovered by Chou Chihui, who was born in China’s Henan Province, looks like a yellow powder. During the test, he took air from outside his lab through a tube and mixed it with the yellow powder. In just five minutes, the carbon dioxide level in the air dropped from 460 to almost zero.
Chou’s teacher, renowned chemist Omar Yagi, stated that the yellow powder remained effective even after 100 uses. After safely transferring the absorbed carbon, it can be used again and again.
Chou has found a new yellow powder that absorbs four times more gas than the old one. He is trying to make the material usable in industrial factories.
