Ban on setting up new industries in the area around the Sundarbans

The Bangladesh Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has prohibited any industrial construction within a 10-kilometer periphery of the Sundarbans Reserve Forest (ECA area).

The ban was issued through a notification, May 12, 2025.

The Bangladesh Environment Act 1995 designated the 10-km periphery around the Sundarbans as an Environmentally Critical Area (ECA).

Planned, eco-friendly activities can help preserve the environment, improve its quality, reduce pollution, and promote sustainability. This decision is an important step in maintaining the ecological balance in the ECA area of the Sundarbans.
