Bangladesh has placed special emphasis on strengthening mutual partnerships among South Asian island nations and coastal countries to tackle the severe risks posed by climate change.
On 30 September 2026, a special “Youth Track to COP31” program was held in Malé as part of a joint environmental initiative between Bangladesh and the Maldives. The event aimed to foster leadership among the younger generation and ensure their effective participation in climate diplomacy.
Young environmentalists and policymakers from both countries joined the event. It highlighted a common promise to create a future that can handle climate change.
- Workshop Agenda and Strategic Cooperation: Organized jointly by the Maldives’ Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy and the High Commission of Bangladesh to Maldives, the event led to a consensus on several key issues:
- Coastal Crises and Youth Leadership: Both Bangladesh and the Maldives stand at the forefront of challenges related to rising sea levels and extreme weather events. A decision was taken to set up a youth network to greatly enhance the voices and fresh ideas of young people at the upcoming COP31 conference in Antalya, Turkey.
Fellowships and sharing know-how were important for getting young researchers involved in climate adaptation. These actions will help protect the ecosystems of the islands and delta areas of both countries for a long time.
In the battle against climate change, we must include both senior decision-makers and the fresh ideas and energy of young people.
Green Page believes that this synergy of regional and international cooperation will make the youth of South Asia more vocal in advocating for climate justice.
