The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) announced that it will combine Artificial Intelligence (AI) with supercomputer technology. This will enable quicker and more precise forecasts of extreme weather like floods, droughts, and storms due to climate change.
At a special international scientific conference held in Geneva, Switzerland, it was revealed that alongside traditional weather forecasting, AI-based real-time modeling will play a crucial role in protecting the world from impending natural disasters.
Technological Efficacy and Global Impact: This new scientific initiative is ushering in a groundbreaking shift in weather and climate monitoring methods:
Rapid and Accurate Forecasting: While traditional forecasting models often require hours or days, AI models can analyze complex atmospheric data in mere seconds to accurately predict the trajectory of storms or the onset of heatwaves thousands of miles away. This capability enables the issue of early warnings for coastal and mountainous regions, potentially saving thousands of lives.
Technology Transfer to Developing Nations: A special global fund and a global consortium have been established to provide this advanced AI technology and weather data—either at low cost or free of charge—to developing and least-developed countries that are most vulnerable to the climate crisis.
Using modern technology, the right way can aid us in facing nature’s ups and downs and help humanity survive.
Green Page believes that to lessen climate change effects with AI, world leaders need to cooperate better and share information.
