Climate strike held in Khulna University to prevent adverse effects of climate change

Climate strike held in Khulna University to prevent adverse effects of climate change

Young climate activists staged a climate strike at Khulna University (KU)in Bangladesh’s Hadi Chattar, calling for action against climate change, energy security, and the growth of renewable energy. At that time, young climate activists filled the gathering place with colorful banners, posters and various slogans.

The youth chanted slogans like “We want renewable energy, not fake solutions,” warning that neglecting renewable energy in policy could threaten Bangladesh’s future.

They called on world leaders to end the use and funding of fossil fuels that contribute to climate change and to compensate the affected countries.

Speakers at the event emphasized the climate change crisis and stressed the need to prioritize renewable energy sources in policy to create a sustainable, livable Bangladesh for future generations.

To reduce carbon emissions, developed countries and multinational corporations of the world must stop investing in fossil fuel-dependent electricity.

Climate activists at the rally emphasized that multinational banks and institutions must halt fossil fuel investments for a fair energy transition and to control global temperatures.

The Bangladesh government also has a significant role to play in this regard.  The Bangladesh government’s Integrated Energy and Power Master Plan (IEPMP) 2023 will lead to increased reliance on costly and polluting fossil fuels, contradicting climate goals. They demanded an urgent revision of this plan.

Youthnet Global’s Khulna Divisional Coordinator, SS Shahin Siraj, emphasized the need for Bangladesh to adopt an environmentally friendly and equitable power master plan that prioritizes renewable energy and halts investment in fossil fuels for a sustainable future. The indifference of world leaders to climate justice must stop!

In addition, various institutions must play an active role in establishing human rights around the world and transform the world of tomorrow into a livable world.

At the rally, speakers included YouthNet Global’s Khulna Coordinator, the Satkhira District Coordinator, and several members of the organization. They called on policymakers to come forward by strengthening the demand for climate justice.
