Nailing trees should be stopped
Syeda Rizwana Hasan, a leading environmentalist and advisor in Bangladesh’s Interim Government, in charge of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Bangladesh and the Ministry of Water Resources (MOWR), Bangladesh, is talking about creating a new law to protect trees, where she has said that there should be special provisions to stop nailing trees.
She made this statement after checking the nail removal activities on trees near Abahani Field in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, on January 7.
Rizwana said, “Trees provide oxygen to the environment. Nailing trees hinders the growth of the tree and gradually causes the tree to die.
This is harmful to the environment. Therefore, everyone’s cooperation is needed to stop nailing trees. If the law is enacted, those who violate it will be punished.”
On this occasion, Farhina Ahmed, Secretary of the MOEFCC, Bangladesh; Fahmida Khanam, Director General of the Department of Environment, Bangladesh, and Md Amir Hossain Chowdhury, Chief Conservator of Forests, MOEFCC, Bangladesh were present.
