India’s Naogaon district of Assam witnessed a strange and tragic event. Not one or two but a total of 18 elephant’s carcasses were recovered from the Kondapalli Reserve Forest in Assam.

According to the primary site investigation, recently, there have been colossal lightning and heavy rainfall in that area, and the elephants died due to that lightning.

According to the residents and forest department officials, the residents first found the elephant’s carcasses. They immediately informed the forest department officials after seeing so many elephants carcasses at the same time. The forest department officials reached the spot and became surprised.



It was informed the higher authorities about the matter immediately. The elephant’s carcasses were sent for the autopsy to determine the actual reason for death. The news also reached the new Chief Minister of Assam, India, Himanta Biswa Sarma. He also ordered Parimal Shuklabaidya, the Forest Minister, to visit the spot.

According to the forest department, the initial investment indicates the elephants died due to lightning strikes. However, only after the autopsy, then it can be said the actual reason behind the elephants dead.

Regarding this, Amit Sahai, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, said, “The area was very inaccessible and deep and on top of that, it was raining heavily. Despite all this, our team reached the spot on Thursday. Going there, it was seen that 18 elephant carcasses were found in two places. Fourteen were found on a hill, and the rest 4 were below the hill.”

Later, in this regard, Parimal Shuklabaidya, Indian Forest Minister, told the news agency in an interview, “This is a very painful incident, but the elephants may have died due to the lightning. We are hoping to know the actual reason after the autopsy. I will personally visit the spot.” However, many think the poachers can be behind this incident, which cannot take lightly before autopsy.
