The Earth has lost 3 billion tons of ice due to climate change

Due to climate change and global warming, the world has lost about three thousand billion tons of ice in the last 10 years. This means that the polar ice is melting faster than usual. This information has been published in a journal called Geophysical Research Letters.

For several years, scientists have been saying that the ice in the Arctic region is melting very fast. Now its truth has been found in the picture sent from Europe’s satellite Cryostat.

Europe sent Cryostat into space to monitor the Earth. The pictures show that two lakh glaciers have been wiped out in the last 10 years. The amount of ice in it was two thousand seven hundred and twenty billion tons. This means the ice is melting at a rate of two percent in just one decade.

Many people around the world depend on glaciers for agriculture and drinking water. Not only that, these glaciers also help to keep the Earth cool.

So, it is essential to keep an eye on the movement of glaciers worldwide. And the best way to monitor it is by satellite. CryoSat is doing just that.

CryoSat sends microwave pulses with an instrument called a radar altimeter. With the help of this, it is understood how the height of the surface is.

The data sent by CryoSat shows that the most ice has melted in the last decade from the glaciers of Alaska. This area has lost about 80 billion tons of ice. And half of this melted ice is mixed in the sea. However, scientists blamed the increase in air temperature for these incidents.

 The fact that a large amount of ice is mixed in the sea has worried scientists. They say that melting ice is increasing the sea level. And it threatens the existence of the lower areas.
