Three Individuals and Three Institutions Nominated for National Environment Award 2024

 The Government of Bangladesh has nominated three individuals and three institutions for the National Environment Award 2024, honoring their contributions to environmental protection, pollution control, public awareness, and research. The nominations were finalized in a recent meeting of the National Committee formed by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

This national award is presented annually to acknowledge individuals and institutions for their exceptional efforts in environmental conservation. The goal is to raise public awareness and inspire further initiatives to protect the environment. This year, nominations were given across three categories, both at the individual and institutional levels.

In the category of Environmental Protection and Pollution Control, Md. Mahmudul Islam from Aziznagar village in Tetulia Upazila, Panchagarh district, has been nominated individually. SNOWTEX OUTERWEAR LTD Companyin Dhamrai, Dhaka, has been recognized for its significant contributions to sustainable and eco-friendly industrial practices.

The individual nominee for Environmental Education and Awareness is Mohammad Munir Chowdhury from the CDA residential area in Chattogram. The institutional nominee is the non-governmental organization WBB Trust (Work for a Better Bangladesh), which has long been active in promoting environmental awareness and policy-level advocacy.

In the category of Environmental Research and Technological Innovation, Professor Dr. M. Firoz Ahmed has been nominated as the individual awardee. Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) is nominated in this category for its significant contribution to developing environmentally sustainable agricultural technologies in the country.

The award recipients will be officially honored at a special ceremony on the occasion of National Environment Day. Winners will receive two tolas of 22-carat gold, BDT 50,000 in cash, a crest, and a certificate.

The National Environment Award is a state-level recognition for individuals and institutions dedicated to environmental protection. It also sends a powerful message encouraging people from all walks of life to actively engage in environmental conservation. Many see this government initiative as a meaningful step towards safeguarding the country’s natural resources.
